Thaba Nare Game Farm
A new chapter in the bushveld.
Private wilderness. Authentic African bushveld. Understated luxury rooted in conservation.
Set in Lephalale, Limpopo, Thaba Nare is a privately owned 3,400-hectare game farm where rolling terrain, river frontage, natural streams, dams, rugged hills and unspoilt bushveld come together to create a secluded safari retreat.
Here, the land leads. Every upgrade, every lodge refinement and every wildlife management decision is guided by respect for the farm’s natural character, its biodiversity and its heritage.

Private wilderness. Authentic bushveld.
A place where Africa still feels untamed.
Thaba Nare is entering a new era of quiet, understated luxury.
Rooted in the former Dombeya Conservancy, the farm is being carefully restored and refreshed while preserving the rugged beauty, wildlife and deep bushveld character that make this place so special.
Our three bush lodges has been thoughtfully renovated and refined and completed renovations in May 2026. Guests can look forward to the same warm hospitality, familiar charm and authentic bush experience, now complemented by updated lodge spaces offering enhanced comfort, privacy and ease.
Whether you come for rest, wildlife, family time, game drives, bird watching, fishing, clay pigeon shooting or a private celebration, Thaba Nare offers a secluded African retreat that feels grounded, generous and real.

The Land
Thaba Nare is shaped by the land itself.
The farm stretches across rugged Limpopo bushveld, with rolling hills, mountain slopes, flowing streams, dams, river frontage and varied habitats that support a wide range of wildlife and birdlife.
Bordering the Mogol River, the property offers both open bushveld and more sheltered natural areas, creating a landscape that changes with the light, the season and the movement of game.
Nestled within the hills are historic Iron Age rock art sites, adding a rare cultural layer to the wilderness experience and reminding us that this land has carried stories for generations.
At Thaba Nare, the bush is not a backdrop. It is the heart of the experience.
Conservation & Wildlife Management
Conservation is practical, long-term and deeply connected to the land.
The farm is managed with a focus on healthy veld, reliable water resources, responsible wildlife numbers and balanced species management. This includes ongoing attention to grazing pressure, water points, habitat condition, herd health and the natural carrying capacity of the land.
Where required, herds are carefully supplemented with responsibly sourced animals from strong, appropriate bloodlines. This is done to support genetic diversity, strengthen herd resilience and maintain healthy wildlife populations over time.
The focus is not artificial breeding or short-term gain. It is about building robust, naturally adapted herds that belong in the landscape and contribute to the long-term biodiversity of the farm.

Biodiversity in the Bushveld
Thaba Nare is not a staged safari, it is a working, living wilderness.
Thaba Nare is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including leopard, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, hyena, wild dogs, giraffe and numerous plains game species.
The diversity of habitats across the farm creates space for different species to move, feed, shelter and breed. From riverine areas and dams to rocky slopes, open plains and thicker bushveld, the land supports a layered and living ecosystem.
Birdlife is also an important part of the Thaba Nare experience. Guests are encouraged to slow down, listen and notice the smaller details of the bush: tracks in the sand, movement in the grass, calls in the trees and the rhythm of the land at sunrise and sunset.
This is a place for people who want to experience the bushveld honestly, not as a staged safari, but as a working, living wilderness.
Our bush lodges are designed for privacy, comfort and connection to the land.

A New Era of Understated Luxury
A new chapter in the bushveld.
The upgrades currently underway at Thaba Nare are intentionally quiet.
This is not about changing the soul of the farm. It is about refining the guest experience while keeping the bushveld honest, private and deeply connected to the land.
The lodges are being refreshed. The farm is being carefully managed. The wildlife story is being strengthened. And the guest experience is being shaped around comfort, privacy, conservation and authentic African hospitality.
Thaba Nare is not a hotel in the bush.
It is a private game farm with history, space, wildlife and soul.
